On Sunday, April 15, and Monday, April 16, Istanbul&i had its first Flea Market! We invited our broader Istanbul community to buy gently used books, clothing, household items, and more, all with the purpose of raising funds for our Unaccompanied Minors Dormitory Project. While perusing the selection of affordable items, shoppers listened to live music and ate delicious homemade cookies, borek, pasta salad, and other treats.
In total we raised 3000 TL within two days! The money raised for the Unaccompanied Minors Dormitory Project will go directly towards supporting the displaced minor boys that we are working with in Kadikoy.
Currently we support these youth through Turkish and English language conversation clubs, football practice, art workshops, and social activities such as picnics. Money raised will go towards renting the classroom space and football field, transportation for social activities, and supplies for the workshops. For more information and the link to our fundraising campaign please see our article written by Yabangee.
This event would not be possible without the generous support of those who gave donations to be sold. While we can’t thank everyone as many people dropped off items anonymously, we would like to take the time to thank these people in particular:
Merve Aslan Akyüz and Fatih Akyüz
Sevil Demir and Ece Demir-Lira
Ayça Pınar Doğan
May Pan Pwint
Robertine Ritta Rosella
